This page is a guide to basic roleplay practices and common courtesies used on Andromeda. Please refer to the following tips to enjoy a respectful experience on the server.
What do I need a ticket for?
Kidnapping, murder, theft, griefing, war, or editing the established server worldbuilding.
A good rule of thumb is that if it involves heavily affecting another player’s agency, make a ticket first!
Common Courtesies of Roleplay
Click to read about common roleplay courtesies and practices.
- Roleplay is typically a “yes and” scenario. Without anyone saying yes, plotlines can fail to move forward, and people can get discouraged. Try your best to work with others!
- Don’t force people to do things and don’t RP for them! Furthermore, don’t assume that another player is okay with something!
NO HEAVY SCRIPTING/DO NOT CONTROL OTHER’S CHARACTERS. - Don’t spread out-of-character information, in-character. As much as we understand that you want to share with people, this is metagaming.
Good practice is to keep secrets secret, even out-of-character, to keep the roleplay real. - Play your character for fun and a good story instead of “winning”! We all love lore, and we want everyone to enjoy it, so there can’t be a final winner of the plot.
- Do not lore break! Stay in-character as much as possible during story in order to not impact anyone else’s experience.
- Respect statuses, but do not abuse them. Pay attention to who is actively in character and respect their decision to be IC or OOC.
However, do not regularly use an OOC status to hide from IC consequences or situations.
Andromeda’s Policy on Fantasy Racism
As a server that heavily relies on the Origins Mod for lore, we understand that realistically in a world inhabited by many races that some racism involving the Origins would take place. However Andromeda has a no-tolerance policy on roleplay racism/fantasy racism. Even as a joke, you will be warned if we see it.
Racism as a story device has been successfully used in various popular media and literature to add a layer of realism and strife in a character’s story. However, we are playing with fantasy races. Most people who seek to be roleplay racist don’t do it in good faith to add depth, but simply because they want their character to be a controversial edgelord (Gross).
The only exception is if your written character backstory includes experiences of racism done unto your character. Again, do not enact in roleplay!
Heavy Subjects, Trigger Warnings, and Consent
These heavy topics can be done well in RP if taken seriously and treated with respect, but why is it so important to issue trigger warnings to your RP group? OOC you should get the consent of the group you’re currently rp-ing with, and make sure you don’t risk severely triggering someone because you failed to disclose heavy topics to them. People deserve warnings.
Roleplay that references suicide for character lore require a trigger warning, this also applies to written lore on the subject. Character lore/RP that references alcohol abuse also requires a trigger warning.
More extreme and destructive topics like self harm and eating disorders should be left out entirely due to our players’ age demographic. If you choose to vaguely reference these things in written backstory that is alright as long as the proper trigger warnings are issued. Still, do not enact in roleplay.
Three Big Nos
1. Don’t make drastic story decisions without making a ticket first.
If in doubt, give us a heads up!
2. Don’t bully people (IC or OOC) and RESPECT EFFORT. New roleplayers have a tendency to hold back in fear of being made fun of, Andromeda is a safe space to embrace a new persona.
Bonus points if you passionately voice act your character!
3. Don’t take in-character stuff personally, no one actually hates you. Making enemies in-character can be fun! Just make sure to be nice to your RP enemies OOC.
